We had a wonderful, inaugural workshop in Raglan, NZ, on 3rd March. We were thrilled that 20 people turned up and by the end of the workshop the energy was buzzing! The cartoon videos on this website of people doing affective touch are generated from video shot at the workshop.

People were truly surprised at how the touch felt natural and soothing, and how it enhanced the power of emotional connection. According to the workshop feedback, people felt expanded, more confident, they found more self-compassion and discovered unexpected personal strengths.

Here’s some of the comments by participants:

“I found, surprisingly to hear a story and a touch combined made my emotional connection immediate.

I feel slightly larger than before. in a good way, expanded.

In my original story, I had a truck turn up that was very, very big, carrying a lot of bad stuff, and by the end, it had become a much smaller truck, like, a fraction of the size. And I didn’t feel as alone. As a consequence, I felt more confident because I had a new perspective, I saw the situation with the different inner mindset.

Because of the soothing touch I actually felt more compassionate towards myself, Yes, in the original scenario, it was like a lot of judgement about the different thing that I did, and after I felt like it was like, oh, that’s actually all right.

I don’t think I had an image of an event, but I did eventually find an image of another sort of positiveness, yeah, and then I could put that image back in, the positive was so amazing, yeah, but it felt like, oh, okay, yeah. So you can make sense of all this. I can just hang on to that strength, yeah, it will crystallise.

A pretty amazing result from just 30 minutes practice in pairs!

We’d love for you to try out Somatic Compassion and report back how the experience was for you? Add your comments below:
